Privacy Policy for Aladdin
This policy discloses the privacy practices for the Aladdin cloud-based CAD software developed and operated by the Institute for Future Intelligence (IFI), a non-profit research organization based in Massachusetts that is dedicated to promoting STEM education. This policy applies solely to information collected by Aladdin for service and research purposes.
Data Collection, Use, and Sharing
If you would like to store your Aladdin CAD files on the cloud, you will need to register with Aladdin so that it can create an account for you.
Currently, Aladdin allows you to sign in using the so-called
OAuth-based Google Sign-In,
which is provided by Google to simplify the registration process with a third-party app like Aladdin with a single click.
All the user authentication steps are securely handled by Google.
When you sign into Aladdin using this service from Google, Aladdin collects only a unique alphanumeric string
(such as P2wNcxhEdas8BN11hBstfZdDau2) for use to create and access your Aladdin account
— No personally identifiable data such as your name and email is gathered from you.
IFI has no knowledge about your Google account except the alphanumeric ID string.
With an Aladdin account, you receive benefits such as storing your CAD files on the cloud, sharing your designs with others, being notified when someone is interested in your work, and using other computational and communal facilities within Aladdin. While you are using these free services provided by Aladdin, we may also collect usage data to support our research on how people learn and work with Aladdin. The purpose is to use the information to improve our products and services for future uses. In some cases, we may share these information with researchers outside IFI through inter-institutional collaboration agreements. Again, these information contain no personally identifiable data about anyone.
Your Access to and Control Over Information
If you still do not feel comfortable about the above privacy statement, you may opt out of any future relationship with Aladdin at any time. You can do the following by emailing charles@intofuture.org:
- See what data we have about you, if any;
- Change/correct any data we have about you;
- Ask us to delete any data we have about you;
- Express any concern you have about our use of your data.
As we have no other way to identify your data, please provide your alphanumeric Google ID in your communication with us so that we can entertain your request. Your alphanumeric Google ID can be found in the "My Account Settings" page within Aladdin.

This policy may change from time to time and all updates will be posted on this page.
